This recently completed project was on a Persimmon Homes site based in Wymondham, Norwich. Our largest project to date, we were awarded the Principal Contractor role to construct a new roundabout on the B1172 which gives an additional entrance to the Elm Farm housing development.
The scheduled plan of works were split into 4 phases, and November 2020 saw the start of site set-up and mobilisation before moving on to the removal of topsoil and excavating to sub base before placing general fill and compacting. Within the first 4 weeks we carried out a number of CBR tests to assess the strength of the sub-grade.
Following a short Christmas break, work continued with gas, electric and water diversions taking place. All work up until this point was carried out on the ‘site side’ and therefore had no impact on road traffic or pedestrians. However, once works moved into phase three, it was necessary to install two-way traffic lights and divert the traffic around the side of the roundabout that had been constructed.
Phase four came as we entered the beginning of March 2021, and these works required a full road closure and overnight work to plane the carriageway. Surfacing works to the carriageway were carried out across 3 nights with minimal disruption to neighbours.
Despite challenging weather conditions with anything from sun, wind, rain and snow, the project remained on track. We’re very proud of the team for delivering this project for such a prestigious house builder, and have received fantastic feedback from both the client, and the local council from start to finish.
